Methodology

How we pick products.

The short answerWe only recommend products rated about 4.5 stars or higher with hundreds to thousands of reviews, checked live on the retailer's own product page. Every page shows the date it was checked. We never invent ratings, prices or links, and we drop anything we can't verify.

Our rules

  1. Rating floor: about 4.5★ or higher on the retailer's own page. We make a rare exception (for example, a 4.4★ grout with 2,000+ reviews) when no option in the category clears the bar. It's always shown honestly.
  2. Review volume: hundreds of reviews at minimum, ideally thousands. A 4.9★ product with 15 reviews doesn't qualify.
  3. Live verification: ratings, review counts, prices and links are read from the live product page (Home Depot, Amazon). Anything we can't verify is dropped.
  4. Dated: every job page shows its check date and is re-checked regularly.
  5. Prices: Home Depot prices are shown with an "as of" date. Amazon prices aren't shown on our pages; use "Check price" to see the current price on Amazon.
  6. Fit for the job: a builder's judgment on what the job actually needs. Right-sized quantities, no filler.
  7. Videos: reputable creators only (This Old House, The Home Depot, Family Handyman and similar), checked to exist, embedded with full credit.

How we make money

Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change our picks or ranking. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. (Placeholder: links are not live affiliate links yet.)
